New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticised the Union government over what he described as a security clampdown in central Delhi to prevent the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar, as police detained the outfit's top leaders.
Comparing the situation to the Emergency, Kejriwal alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was afraid of the protest and the questions it raised over the electoral process.
“This is worse than the Emergency. It's official… We are living under an absolute dictatorship ruled by Modi. Arresting cockroaches straight off their flight shows an unprecedented level of fear,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
“PM Modi clearly knows he only won the election through vote chori and now he is hell-bent on protecting his fraud by completely crushing democracy. Gyanesh must go, but so must Modi,” he added.
Kejriwal's remarks came amid heightened security across central Delhi ahead of the CJP's planned demonstration demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The AAP has alleged that Delhi Police turned Kejriwal's residence into a fortress ahead of the protest.
On Friday, Kejriwal said he and his family would attend the demonstration and urged young people to join the protest demanding Kumar's resignation over alleged “vote theft”.
